G8RTech, Inc. Names Its Medical Advisory Committee

Protective equipment significantly decreases concussion risk in contact sports

BALTIMORE--()--G8RTech, Inc.—a specialized protective equipment company—has announced its medical advisory committee. The company’s first product, G8RSkin, invented by football player Carter Hogg, is a specialized balaclava-like shell that goes under football helmets. Having successfully completed rigorous testing at Virginia Tech, G8RSkin™ PPE is demonstrated to reduce the risk of concussion through its proprietary design.

The Medical Advisory Committee is composed of Drs. Tamara Wexler, Charles A. Popkin, and Audrey Paul.

Dr. Tamara Wexler is a much-admired expert and internationally recognized in the field of endocrinology, with a focus on neuroendocrinology and reproductive endocrinology. She is the founding director of the Pituitary Center at NYU Langone Medical Center and held the Attending Physician in Internal Medicine position at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Wexler’s research endeavors are centered around the investigation of pituitary dysfunction following brain injuries. Her academic journey includes earning both an MD and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Endocrinology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was actively involved in the Neuroendocrine Unit.

“There is a need to not only raise awareness of the sequelae of concussions (hormonal shifts included), but to start by reducing concussions themselves. There is great value in pairing a strong evidence-based approach with addressing unmet needs of athletes,” said Dr. Wexler.

Dr. Charles A. Popkin is a distinguished specialist in pediatric, adolescent, and collegiate sports medicine, focusing on surgical and non-surgical approaches to complex knee disorders. He has completed two fellowships in Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, proving his commitment to providing comprehensive care and injury prevention for young athletes.

His dedication extends to the sport of ice hockey, where he actively serves as a team physician for USA Hockey and is a part of the USA Hockey National Safety and Protective Equipment Committee. Moreover, he serves as the head team physician for esteemed institutions such as Fordham University, Mercy College, and the Hackley School in Tarrytown, as well as being an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at CUMC.

“With years of experience addressing concussions and their impact on players, I understand the critical need for innovative solutions that prioritize athlete well-being,” explained Dr. Popkin. “From a medical perspective, the G8RSkin aligns perfectly with our goal of promoting athletes’ health and career longevity.”

Dr. Audrey Paul is a highly skilled medical professional with training in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Harvard College and subsequently completed her medical training and residency at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She furthered her expertise through fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at Columbia Presbyterian, making her double-boarded in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine.

Dr. Paul received a grant from ACEP to assess nationwide discharge instructions for pediatric concussions in emergency departments. She is the former chair of ACEP’s pediatric emergency medicine section and now serves as the alternate chancellor for the ACEP Pediatric Emergency Medicine Committee. Dr. Paul is PALS, BLS, and ACLS certified and a credentialed ImPACT consultant.

“G8RSkin was built upon the latest scientific insights and cutting-edge engineering, representing a significant step forward in mitigating the risk of concussions in sports,” she said.

“We are overjoyed to announce the formation of our Medical Advisory Committee,” said Carter Hogg. “The ability to collaborate with premier medical experts like Drs. Tamara Wexler, Audrey Paul, and Charles Popkin is absolutely critical in allowing us to continuously improve the performance of G8RSkin PPE and our other upcoming products. Their knowledge, expertise, and passion blend seamlessly with our mission here at G8RTech: keeping athletes safe.”
