AIHA Initiates Search for New CEO

CEO Lawrence Sloan will leave Association at the end of 2026

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the association for scientists and professionals committed to preserving and ensuring occupational and environmental health and safety in the workplace and community, announced today that its decade-long serving CEO, Lawrence Sloan, MBA, FASAE, CAE, will step down from his position at the end of 2026 in order to pursue personal and other professional interests. In tandem with this announcement, AIHA is initiating an executive search to identify a new leader.

Founded in 1939, AIHA’s mission is to empower professionals to protect all workers and their communities from occupational and environmental hazards through the application of scientific knowledge. AIHA supports its more than 8,500 members with the networks, education, and resources necessary to help them maintain the highest professional and competency standards.

“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve this organization and to work alongside so many dedicated professionals who are committed to protecting workers and advancing our profession. While leadership transitions naturally bring change, I have great confidence in AIHA’s future,” says Sloan.

“Over the past ten years, Larry Sloan has successfully guided AIHA through a period of significant growth, impact, and change for the industrial hygiene and OEHS profession. Under his leadership, the association strengthened its mission, expanded its reach, and advanced key initiatives to protect worker health worldwide,” says AIHA Board President, Bradley King, PhD, MPH, CIH. “We thank him for his years of dedicated service and wish him the best in the next phase of his career.

AIHA is relying on its succession plan to guide the process of selecting a new CEO. It has already formed and launched a selection committee comprised of AIHA Board members and at-large members from the Association to oversee the process and has retained executive search firm Vetted Solutions to implement the search. Vetted Solutions and the selection committee have already commenced their work; AIHA's goal is to have a new CEO selected by the fourth quarter of 2026 to provide a seamless transition plan with Sloan’s departure.

“The AIHA Board of Directors recognizes the critical importance of this position to the long-term health of the association, and we are well prepared for this transition. Our objective is to ensure a smooth, orderly, and transparent process that positions AIHA for continued success,” says King.
