Semtech’s UEX Series: USB 2.0 Extension over IP Networks

Enabling protocol-level point-to-point extension and distribution with enhanced monitoring and control capabilities for up to 100m distances

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a high-performance semiconductor, Internet of Things (IoT) systems and cloud connectivity service provider, announced its innovative UEX series, a groundbreaking solution for USB 2.0 extension and distribution over IP networks. The series includes the UEX1000, a co-processor for Semtech's BlueRiver® AVP family, and the standalone UEX2000, both delivering protocol-level USB 2.0 extension with advanced monitoring and security controls.

Solving Critical Connectivity Challenges

The UEX series leverages IP-friendly discovery approaches instead of polling, for more efficient performance, delivering better responsiveness and reliability for demanding applications in industrial control systems, manufacturing automation, video conferencing, and integrated medical operating rooms.

  • Unlike basic USB extenders that merely relay signals, Semtech’s UEX series enables secure transmission across IP networks with device class filtering.
  • Networkwide firmware updates without physical access.
  • Automatic notification to prevent USB maximum tier violations.
  • Plug-and-play performance requiring no software drivers.

“Our new UEX series represents a significant advancement in the USB extension market, providing our customers with what we believe to be unparalleled flexibility and control,” said Melissa Nolet, director of Pro AV solutions at Semtech. “By enabling USB 2.0 extension at the protocol layer with firmware upgradability over the network, we are empowering users to deploy sophisticated USB connectivity solutions across a wide range of applications, from industrial control systems to medical environments.”

Real World Applications Demonstrated

Leading AV integrator tt group and manufacturer IDK have already showcased UEX1000-based products at ISE 2025 in Barcelona in February, demonstrating the technology’s reliability and performance in real-world applications. These early implementations highlight the growing demand for robust USB extension solutions in professional settings.

About the UEX Series

The UEX2000 delivers standalone USB 2.0 extension for applications requiring distances up to 100m using standard category cabling, ideal for high-security installations requiring device monitoring.

The UEX1000 serves as a co-processor for Semtech’s BlueRiver AVP1000, AVP2000, and AVP2000T. When attached to an AVP, it enables full bandwidth USB 2.0 point-to-point extension and distribution over IP networks. Fully compatible with the BlueRiver chipset for AV over IP and Software Defined Video over Ethernet (SDVoE®) products, the UEX1000 is interoperable with the entire installed base of SDVoE products.
