SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Arzeda, the leading industrial protein design company co-founded in 2009 by Nobel laureate and University of Washington School of Medicine biochemistry professor David Baker, announces a major production milestone in delivering innovative protein-designed products to the market at scale.
Arzeda has surpassed 10 tons of production for its ProSweet RebM™ stevia, a natural, zero-calorie sweetener. This achievement is equivalent to replacing 3,000 tons of sugar or providing 750 million servings. From concept to commercialization, Arzeda brought ProSweet RebM™ to market in just one-third of the time it would typically take using conventional methods. Arzeda is now expanding production to meet increasing global demand.
“The pace of innovation we’re driving really speaks to the impact Intelligent Protein Design Technology™ will have on the world,” said Alexandre Zanghellini, Arzeda co-founder and CEO. “Our founding team took a bold leap over a decade ago when we decided to spin out from David’s lab and follow the science of protein design. I could not be prouder of David for his vision, leadership and tireless efforts in this space, making him exceptionally deserving of the Nobel Prize.”
Arzeda now employs more than 70 team members spanning machine learning, protein testing, strain design, downstream processing, and operations, including more than a dozen alumni from the University of Washington. Other products in Arzeda’s pipeline include protein-based products across diverse industries, from next-generation enzymes for laundry detergents to sustainable high-performance materials. Major companies working with Arzeda include Unilever, W. L. Gore & Associates, and AAK.
