AcuityMD Launches ‘Care Journeys’ to Help MedTech Companies Speed Delivery of Breakthrough Innovation to the Right Patients

New longitudinal, data-driven technology empowers commercial teams to identify complex patient populations and quantitatively communicate value to buyers

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AcuityMD, a leading technology provider to the medical technology (MedTech) industry, today announced the launch of AcuityMD Care Journeys to help MedTech companies efficiently bring their innovations to the right patients by harnessing longitudinal, patient-level data for more precise targeting. Care Journeys also empowers commercial teams to demonstrate the value of their products to physicians, hospitals, and independent delivery networks (IDNs), driving revenue and improving patient care.

Whether a MedTech company is launching a new device or running a clinical trial, Care Journeys uncovers and prioritizes opportunities to treat patients with complex clinical histories. Care Journeys affords MedTech teams unprecedented accuracy and precision when identifying patient populations that can benefit the most from their innovations – especially groups with comorbidities, dual diagnoses, or at the intersection of multiple conditions and procedures.

Early adopter icotec Medical is using Care Journeys to uncover sites-of-care that treat patients with spinal tumors as well as the spine surgeons and radiation oncologists that treat them. icotec makes a unique carbon composite surgical screw for patients suffering from metastatic spine disease. These radiolucent, non-metallic screws produce little-to-no artifact in diagnostic imaging such as computer tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which leads to safer delivery of adjuvant radiation therapy and improved monitoring and follow-up care. icotec was also just approved for a new indication for spinal infections and has leveraged Care Journeys to create its commercialization strategy, inform decisions on head count and manufacturing, identify partner sites of care, and more as icotec prepares for launch.

“Finding the right targets with Care Journeys has been like going from holding a candle in a dark room to shining an industrial flashlight,” explained Scott McKay, product manager at icotec Medical. “Care Journeys enables our organization to quickly identify the appropriate patient population in target accounts and the key stakeholders in each of those sites of care that we have been struggling to find for years. Care Journeys’ insights also enrich our partnership with surgeons and healthcare systems, empowering us to bring more value to our partners and help them identify and treat more patients with our unique technology.”

Synchron Inc. is leveraging Care Journeys to identify and enroll patients in a pre-clinical trial for its brain-computer interface (BCI) that allows paralyzed patients to control digital outputs, providing a breakthrough treatment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients. With the next trial starting in 2025, Synchron faced challenges efficiently identifying the right ALS patients for trial participation. Care Journeys’ deep insights are helping Synchron not only identify the patients that have ALS but also those with paralysis, plus the treating physicians. Synchron has leveraged Care Journeys to significantly accelerate potential site enrollment.

“As we gear up for the BCI trial, AcuityMD Care Journeys’ insights into this specific ALS patient population, treatment centers, key stakeholders, and potential referrals has been invaluable,” said John McKinley, senior director of medical education and training at Synchron. “Care Journeys’ multidimensional data is expanding our search beyond existing connections to new geographies and has helped us quickly hone in on viable clinical trial sites. This intelligence will also be critical to our post-approval commercialization strategy.”

A Powerful Assist: Demonstrating Value to Buyers

As the MedTech landscape continues to evolve, healthcare systems consolidate purchasing power, making it more difficult to commercialize new products without clearly communicating their value and clinical return on investment (ROI). Now, commercial MedTech teams can develop data-rich, visual presentations that resonate with hospital executives by articulating the value of new medical technologies – all using Care Journeys. The platform gives in-depth analytics on clinical market share, revenue leakage, and quality of care.

"More precision in targeting ultimately results in a higher-quality sales pipeline, which supports the entire MedTech commercialization process," said Ross Feinstein, vice president of product at AcuityMD. “Care Journeys makes it fast and easy to not only pinpoint complex patient populations, but also harness clinical market share, patient data, and quality of care insights to become trusted advisors to providers, ultimately improving patient care.”

AcuityMD Care Journeys is now generally available as an expansion to the AcuityMD platform. Learn more at The MedTech Conference in Toronto, Canada on Wednesday, October 16 (2:45pm) in the Solution Showcase, or visit AcuityMD booth #305.
