ScholarGPS® Launches Scholarly Analytics Platform: Revolutionizing Scholar and Institutional Rankings Using AI and Data Science

LOS ANGELES--()--ScholarGPS®, the world's leading scholarly analytics platform created by scholars for scholars, is announcing its official public launch at scholargps.com.

ScholarGPS introduces the first fully quantitative rankings of all scholars, research institutions, universities, and academic programs. ScholarGPS assesses each of these rankings across 14 broad fields (such as Medicine, Engineering, or Humanities), 177 disciplines (such as Surgery, Computer Science, or History), and even over 350,000 highly focused specialties (such as Cancer, Artificial Intelligence, or Ethics) in which institutions and individuals are active. These ranking schemes rely on quantifying research productivity, impact, and quality, all determined from archival publication records, thus establishing unmatched benchmarks fully independent of subjective judgments. ScholarGPS also offers extensive and in-depth profiles for over 30 million scholars, 55,000 research institutions and universities, as well as for all fields, disciplines, and specialties using its massive database.

“The creation of this ground-breaking technology was the result of a collaborative effort involving a group of distinguished scholars from both academic and non-academic institutions,” says Dr. Amir Faghri, Founder and CEO of California-based ScholarGPS. “This extensive undertaking spanned multiple years and involved the close engagement and consultation with the larger diverse global research and academic communities.”

Access to a recent year of institutional and program rankings, whether based on active scholars using lifetime scholarly achievements or on accomplishments over the past five years, is now available for free at ScholarGPS Institutional Rankings.

One significant insight obtained from the institutional rankings of over 5600 academic institutions is the notable shift in rankings across various categories. In particular, two Chinese institutions made remarkable advancements in their overall rankings over the past five years compared to their historical standings. Tsinghua University ascended from a Lifetime Rank of 128 to a 5-Year Rank of 8, while Zhejiang University climbed from a Lifetime Rank of 190 to a 5-Year Rank of 19. Harvard University and Stanford University retained their first and second-place overall rankings.

In the field of Engineering and Computer Science, MIT and Stanford University shifted from their lifetime first and second-place positions to second and twelfth, respectively, in the 5-Year rankings. Meanwhile, Tsinghua University ascended to the top spot in the 5-Year rankings from its lifetime position at 37th. In the field of Medicine, 17 out of the top 20 ranked institutions for the 5 Years are in the U.S. along with the University of Toronto, University College London, and King’s College London.

ScholarGPS also highlights Highly Ranked Scholars among the comprehensive set of over 30 million scholars, who are celebrated for their exceptional rankings by field, discipline, and/or specialty. They are acknowledged by ScholarGPS for their prolific publication records, their substantial impact through citations to their work, and the outstanding quality of their scholarly contributions. The U.S. continues to maintain its top position over all fields by having the largest number of Highly Ranked Scholars, with China ranking second. However, again over all fields, the U.S. and the U.K. have experienced the largest recent reductions in the numbers of Highly Ranked Scholars, whereas China, Iran, and India are now among the top 10 countries in numbers of Highly Ranked Scholars.

ScholarGPS invites scholars, institutions, and all enthusiasts worldwide to explore this new platform at scholargps.com.
