AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Infinitum, creator of the sustainable air-core motor, today announced that its Aircore EC Motor for Data Centers has been recognized with a prestigious R&D 100 Award. Established in 1962, this renowned worldwide science and innovation competition identifies the top 100 revolutionary technologies of the past year. This is the second time that Infinitum has won a R&D 100 Award for its innovative motor system technology.
This year Infinitum’s motor won in the IT/Electrical category for its ability to improve the efficiency and sustainability of data centers. As AI increases demand for data centers, and their accompanying power consumption and emissions, the need for energy conservation is more critical than ever. By 2030, data centers could consume 9% of U.S. electricity generation, which is more than double today’s usage, according to the Electric Power Research Institute.
In data center settings, Infinitum motors averaged 20% reduction in emissions, making them more efficient and cost effective than conventional alternatives. Additionally, Infinitum motors can be right-sized to meet the precise power needs of an application, which reduces the electrical infrastructure requirements, including breakers, wiring, transformers, for a new data center, and allows operators to repurpose electrical capacity for revenue generating services, such as more servers.
“Given that data centers have hundreds and thousands of motors working behind the scenes, improving their efficiency and sustainability can substantially and positively impact the planet,” said Ben Schuler, founder and CEO of Infinitum. “Our team is honored to receive the prestigious R&D 100 Award once again and be recognized for our revolutionary motor technology for data centers.”
“Infinitum is addressing a growing and increasingly pressing sustainability challenge,” said Paul J. Heney, vice president, editorial director of R&D World magazine, which conducts the awards program. “Data centers are set to put an immense amount of strain on the electrical grid for years to come and the innovative Aircore EC Motor for Data Centers is taking this challenge head on.”
