LEUVEN, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Swave Photonics announces the appointment of Dr. Edward Buckley as Vice President, Augmented Reality Solutions. He is a recognized display expert, having taken numerous novel display technologies from the lab bench to production. He is also a prolific inventor having accumulated more than 90 granted patents. At Swave, he will lead the development of Augmented Reality reference designs based upon Swave’s breakthrough HXRTM holographic solutions.
Dr. Buckley was a founder of Light Blue Optics and a co-inventor of the revolutionary holographic projection technology upon which the company’s products were based. He has also served in technology leadership roles at Meta (formerly Facebook), Eink and Pixtronix (acquired by Qualcomm). Dr. Buckley has a PhD from Cambridge University and is a senior member of the IEEE, SPIE and SID.
“I'm delighted to join Swave,” said Dr. Buckley. “The company has an outstanding technology platform and stellar team, leaving it ideally positioned to deliver game-changing solutions across multiple augmented reality market segments.”
Theo Marescaux, Swave’s Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, said, “Having Ed join us is a significant milestone for Swave. His deep-rooted knowledge in AR systems, Head-Up Displays and holography, encompassing both the intricate systems and the processing nuances, is invaluable. With Ed by our side, and the collective prowess of the Swave team, the sky's the limit.”
“We are delighted and honored to have Ed join the Swave Photonics team. He is a successful entrepreneur, a distinguished scientist, and the very rare visionary with an amazing track record of commercializing and scaling disruptive display technologies,” said Mike Noonen, Swave Photonics’ CEO. “As Swave begins to introduce complete AR reference designs and engage partners; there is no one better to lead this effort and join Swave’s management team.”
About Swave HXRTM Technology
Swave’s Holographic eXtended Reality (HXRTM) technology is the Holy Grail of displays, delivering lifelike, high-resolution 3D images indistinguishable from reality. Swave’s HXR technology projects lifelike holographic images that eliminate today’s AR/VR/XR challenges of focal depth and eye tracking, so viewers can easily focus on nearby and faraway objects. Most importantly, the HXR chips are manufactured using standard CMOS technology, which enables cost-effective scaling.
Swave technology can also power holographic headsets that deliver immersive 3D AR/VR/XR experiences with stunning high resolution, perfect depth of focus and 180-degree to 360-degree viewing angles, all without the headaches experienced by users of conventional headsets. Applications powered by HXR gigapixel technology will be capable of passing the visual Turing test in which virtual reality is practically indistinguishable from real-world images that humans see with their own eyes.
