MONTRÉAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HaiLa Technologies Inc., a fabless semiconductor and software company developing highly power-efficient communications solutions, announces today that they have been awarded a CDN$500,000 grant from Quebec’s Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks innovation program known as Technoclimat.
The Technoclimat Program is financed by the Electrification and Climate Change Fund, the Energy Transition, Innovation and Efficiency Fund, and the contribution of energy distributors. Managed by the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, the program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the development of new technologies and innovative processes regarding energy efficiency and emerging energies. The financial assistance from Technoclimat will enable HaiLa to develop and test its energy-efficient wireless communication solution in smart buildings, which could lead to the implementation of a low-energy wireless sensor solution. “Our government is working extra hard to fight climate change. HaiLa’s technology has particularly interesting potential to reduce battery consumption at the source, thereby resulting in significant energy savings,” said Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks.
“Clean technologies from Québec have the power to transform. HaiLa’s technology will significantly reduce the amount of energy and waste associated with battery-powered wireless sensing devices. By extending battery life, HaiLa’s solution reduces the energy required for battery recycling and reduces landfill content. Further, by extending the service life of connected sensor devices, HaiLa reduces related operational expenses for smart building IoT sensing,” said Derek Kuhn, HaiLa’s CEO.
“Scaling sensor deployments sustainably is the key to unlocking valuable data to mitigate climate change. Having the support of Québec’s Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks is another critical step forward in ensuring the greatest positive impact with our solution,” said Charlotte Savage, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, HaiLa Technologies. Technoclimat’s support of HaiLa compliments the CDN$3.0M in non-dilutive financing from Sustainable Development Technology Canada.
