SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kava, an open-source Layer 1 blockchain and DeFi ecosystem, implemented Cosmos’ IBC protocol in its Kava 9 mainnet upgrade on January 19th.
Kava, a decentralized Layer-1 blockchain and DeFi platform, successfully launched its Kava 9 mainnet upgrade yesterday at 19:00 UTC on January 19, 2022. The upgrade delivered integration with the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC), connecting Kava to the Cosmos ecosystem.
The activation of IBC unlocks Kava’s integrated suite of DeFi protocols for holders of $ATOM, $LUNA, and any other IBC enabled assets. With over $65B in assets in the IBC ecosystem, this represents a huge growth opportunity for the Kava network.
Along with activating IBC, Kava 9 also implemented several changes that will support Kava’s 2022 roadmap aimed at expanding its network and ecosystem. These include core Ethereum modules to enable EVM support in the future, a staking incentives module to boost liquidity for new projects launching on Kava, and enhanced developer tools.
The Kava 9 upgrade is the first major milestone in Kava’s 2022 mission to connect the Cosmos and Ethereum ecosystems and deliver a frictionless web3 experience for users across key verticals such as DeFi, GameFi, and NFTs.
