World-Renowned Chef Humanitarian José Andrés Joins GOOD Meat Board, Plans to Serve Cultivated Chicken

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eat Just, Inc., a company that applies cutting-edge science and technology to create healthier, more sustainable foods, announced today that world-renowned chef humanitarian José Andrés has joined the Board of Directors for its GOOD Meat division. The acclaimed restaurateur has also pledged to serve the company’s cultivated chicken at one of his restaurants in the United States following regulatory review and will advise GOOD Meat on its forthcoming products.

As part of the groundbreaking partnership with GOOD Meat, which makes high-quality, real meat directly from animal cells, Andrés will introduce the company to small-scale farmers to source the best cells from the best animals with the goal of entering into cell-line agreements with those farmers. He will also provide culinary counsel to the company’s team of chefs and scientists as they work to improve taste, texture and versatility of their products.

Andrés brings decades of food industry expertise as chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup, which operates more than 30 restaurants across the country and is the only chef globally who has both a two-star Michelin restaurant and four Bib Gourmands. He is a New York Times bestselling author, educator, television personality and founder of World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit that uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies during times of crises.

“The future of the world depends on how we feed ourselves, as the great food thinker Brillat-Savarin wrote almost 200 years ago. We need to innovate to adapt our food to a planet in crisis. We need to create meals that feed the people at the same time as we sustain our communities and environment. I’m proud to join the GOOD Meat team in that mission, as a board member and as a cook,” said Andrés.

“José has fed millions of guests at his award-winning restaurants and nourished entire communities through his visionary social impact work. He has used food as a way to connect and to bring a bit more fairness and compassion to our world and I am honored to welcome this culinary icon and hero to so many, including me, to GOOD Meat's Board of Directors. His relentlessly innovative approach to food and his dedication to pushing everyone around him to do more good in every moment will be of enormous benefit to our team and our mission,” said Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of Eat Just.

Andrés joins two other highly regarded food and agriculture leaders who signed on to advise GOOD Meat this year. In September, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, who is well-recognized in the fields of agriculture, nutrition, hunger, bipartisan politics and public policy, became a member of the company’s Advisory Board; and Jim Borel, former Executive Vice President of DuPont, joined GOOD Meat’s Board of Directors.

Today’s announcement comes as GOOD Meat celebrates the one-year anniversary of obtaining the world’s first regulatory approval for cultivated meat in Singapore and the first-ever sale of its pioneering chicken product to consumers at a restaurant. In the months since those milestones, Singaporeans have regularly enjoyed GOOD Meat on restaurant menus and via home delivery. The company is planning new and delicious ways for diners to experience GOOD Meat in 2022 as it works to increase production capacity and accelerate research and development.
