ELKRIDGE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NewWave is pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Seib as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Innovation. Seib rejoins NewWave after his leadership role in the launch of NewWave’s sister company Onyx and the development of its award-winning interoperability platform SAFHIR. Seib played a central role in the ideation, development and successful market launch of SAFHIR. He will now lead NewWave’s focus on product development and solutioning with Fast Healthcare Interoperable Resources (FHIR)-based applications and services. Seib will focus on building tools for the healthcare industry to support the emergent paradigm of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). To facilitate this work, Seib will lead the stand up of NewWave’s Social Architecture for FHIR-based Referrals and Open-standards Networks. (SAFFRON) Labs, the business unit within NewWave bringing interoperability solutions to federal, state and local government as well as the private sector.
“I am very excited to be a part of this revolution in healthcare,” says Seib. “The combination of FHIR-based interoperability and the recognition that social risk factors are integral to healthcare delivery changes the game. We can move to much better care at a lower cost with the right innovation in place.”
Seib is veteran of healthcare interoperability with 30 years of HIT experience in the payer, clinical research and interoperability domains, including work at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and as CEO of the National eHealth Collaborative and the National Association for Trusted Exchange. As co-chair of HL7 International’s Gravity Project, Seib, is a leader in the movement to create and maintain a consensus-building community to expand available SDOH core data for interoperability and accelerate standards-based information exchange by using HL7® FHIR®. The Gravity Project was initiated in November 2018 by the Social Interventions Research & Evaluation Network (SIREN) with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to convene broad stakeholder groups in identifying and harmonizing social risk factor data for interoperable electronic health information exchange. NewWave’s SAFFRON Labs will provide leadership in building the technological infrastructure of that information exchange.
“Aaron was critical to our success in building SAFHIR, a product that is helping payers in the market today meet the CMS mandate for patient data interoperability. With his leadership, NewWave and SAFFRON Labs will be at the forefront of meaningful health data exchange,” said Patrick Munis, CEO of NewWave.
