Press Ganey Secures Sixth US Patent for Natural Language Processing

New patent enhances client ability to actionize comments and feedback

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Press Ganey last week announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 11,170,172 expanding the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities to better process and actionize structured and unstructured healthcare experience data. This patent is the sixth in a portfolio that covers key innovations from Press Ganey’s NarrativeDx artificial intelligence platform, specifically built for the language of healthcare.

“Ensuring our clients have information at their fingertips is one of our top priorities, and advancements such as this are an impactful step in our continuous journey to provide the best tools available,” said Dan Litwer, chief client officer, Press Ganey. “By receiving this patent, and continuing to improve upon our artificial intelligence functionalities, our clients can discover more actionable data through more concise patient comments and feedback.”

Press Ganey continues to offer the only platform with the ability to accumulate and analyze large volumes of unstructured datasets across the care continuum, now advanced with additional intelligence to enhance natural language processing and make the machine learning more applicable to more domains, like member experience, safety and quality data. The new patent enhances Press Ganey’s ability to actionize comments and identify associations and correlations within various datasets.

For example, there is a significant difference in saying “my doctor is outstanding” and “my bill is outstanding” when deciphering the data. In each instance, “outstanding” carries extremely different positive and negative connotations depending on the context of the experience. With this breakthrough technology, clients will now be able to understand the nuance of experience across the entire care continuum.

“This patent recognizes our continued innovation in healthcare artificial intelligence. For the first time, healthcare leaders can identify actionable insights across multiple domains such as patient, caregiver and health plan member experience with a single platform,” said Kyle Robertson, vice president, Press Ganey, and inventor on this patent.
