MELBOURNE, Australia & BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Titomic Limited (ASX: TTT) has entered into a non-binding agreement with Triton Systems, a leading US-based product development and technology company with over a decade of experience in additive manufacturing. Titomic and Triton will develop applications in the US marketplace using Titomic’s patented TKF cold spray manufacturing process (the “TKF Process”).
This agreement provides Titomic with another entry into the US Defense, Homeland Security, Aerospace, Automotive and Energy sectors through an established and well-regarded local supplier of uniquely designed and performance-specified components. This represents a significant milestone in Triton’s commitment to building a core competency in cold spray processing of multi-metallic structures to add to its product suite.
By combining Titomic’s TKF Process, co-developed with CSIRO and able to produce the 3D printing industry’s largest additively manufactured metal-based components, and Triton’s materials and processing expertise, the partnership will enable economical and faster manufacturing of high-value applications using high-performance metal alloys, including titanium.
The TKF process is a high-throughput additive manufacturing process that accelerates metal powder particles within a supersonic gas flow resulting in high-rate metal deposition. The collision of the particles fuses them together without the effects of melting and resolidifying, providing unique capabilities for the manufacturing of metallic structures. The parts produced with this process possess excellent strength-to-weight ratios and enhanced durability compared to normal construction that requires multiple pieces. The process can be used to coat materials such as metals, glass, ceramics and polymers, repair damaged or worn metal components, and build large components layer-by-layer.
There can be cost savings and productivity improvements of up to 90 percent compared with traditional manufacturing. The TKF process is also substantially faster than other 3D printing technologies, with deposition rates of up to 15kg per hour.
The metal AM materials segment is currently experiencing a period of vibrant growth. The core metal AM sector generated US$1.6 billion in revenues in 2020 and is realistically set to grow to US$31.78 billion by 2030, with a 35% overall CAGR for the 10-year period.1
Triton’s extensive experience in materials and additive manufacturing processes coupled with Titomic’s TKF systems will introduce to the US market:
- the capability to manufacture large size multi-metallic additively manufactured parts;
- new applications for metal additive manufacturing that do not exist today;
- Dramatically increased productivity by reducing lead times from months to days;
- cost-effectively manufactured critical components using high-performance metals, including titanium; and
- Reduced waste by 80% compared with traditional machining through near-net-shape manufacturing.
CEO of Titomic, Herbert Koeck, said: “Titomic is extremely pleased to partner with Triton. We are an entrepreneurially minded company, and are seamlessly integrating custom CSAM systems into partner supply chains and preparing to scale globally with partners in several sectors including with shared risk and rewards. This partnership will allow Titomic to offer its TKF technology to US applications including Aerospace and Defense products. We’ve shown that we can produce the world’s largest additively manufactured steel and titanium products. The future possibilities with Triton to bring this technology to the US is exciting.”
CEO of Triton Systems, Ross Haghighat said, “We are enthusiastic about what this partnership enables. With over a decade of experience in additive manufacturing, we believe that our combined competencies in materials processing and application engineering, can usher in a new family of large multi-metallic structures, based on Titomic’s novel TKF process.”
