Alation Dominates Its Data Governance Peer Group In BARC’s Data Management Survey 22
Received top rankings in Innovation and Innovation Power, and leading positions in Customer Experience, Performance, and Platform Reliability
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alation Inc., the leader in enterprise data intelligence solutions, achieved two top rankings and five leading positions in the latest edition of The Data Management Survey 22 conducted by BARC (Business Application Research Center). Alation was evaluated by actual users in the Data Governance Products peer group and earned above-average ratings in 13 key performance indicators (KPIs). The survey assessed 20 groups of products (or groups of products).
When asked about the main reasons why users chose to buy Alation, 71% cited that the platform met the requirements for data governance, data discovery, and data quality management. An additional 64% of respondents also highlighted the platform’s ease of use for business users. This ranking was well above average.
“Alation has successfully evolved from a pure data catalog tool to a platform that also supports data governance,” said Timm Grosser, Senior Analyst, Data & Analytics, BARC. “Selecting the right technology for your enterprise is a tough decision, and it’s clear that Alation users value the breadth and depth of the platform as well as the product development team behind it.”
In the Innovation Power KPI, Alation received a near-perfect score (9.5/10) for its ability to meet customer needs. In the Innovation KPI, defined as a combination of Innovation Power and Automation KPIs, Alation received a top-ranking for its modern and breakthrough technology. 57% of users confirm that the ‘innovative strength of the vendor’ was a significant reason behind their decision to go with Alation.
“Love it! An innovative tool and organization which supports a modern approach to governance, data and analytical literacy and asset management,” said an enterprise architect at a telecommunication company.
Alation also took home five leading positions in the survey for Customer Experience, Performance, Platform Reliability, Recommendation, and Usability. In the Recommendation KPI, 90% of users cited they would recommend Alation. In the Usability KPI, 87% of surveyed users rated Alation as excellent or good.
“Historically, data governance has stifled innovation achieving compliance at the cost of broad data access,” said Satyen Sangani, CEO and co-founder of Alation. “This is a big reason we’ve taken a people-centric approach to governance. The human experience of data discovery and literacy are essential, and so too is providing governance, security, and control. High satisfaction rates reflect that people want to connect and innovate. For hundreds of organizations, our platform has been a game-changer.”
The Data Management Survey 22 is based on the findings from BARC’s major survey of data management end users, conducted from January to April 2021. More than 1,100 people responded to the survey across 63 countries. The survey examined user feedback on data management product selection and usage.
The top-rankings come on the heels of the launch of the Alation Data Governance App, which simplifies how organizations enable secure access to the best data in today’s hybrid & multi-cloud environments. Alation was a Leader in report “The Forrester Wave™: Data Governance Solutions, Q3 2021;” named to the Constellation Shortlist for Metadata Management, Data Cataloging & Data Governance in Q3 2021; and is Snowflake’s Data Governance Partner of the Year.
