Social Learning Platform Piazza Adds Improved Security and Privacy Controls For University Administrators and Instructors

Added LTI version 1.3 and SAML SSO, provides expanded administrative controls including enrollment management, roster synchronization with the university LMS, and grade book integration

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Piazza, the premier social learning platform, today announced a significant upgrade to its platform that provides university administrators with tighter control where they can now lock down course creation and course sign-ups to Piazza directly through the university’s current learning management system (LMS). The addition of the latest IMS integration protocol, LTI version 1.3 and SAML SSO, enables Piazza to extend greater security and privacy controls to administrators allowing them to simplify and improve how they manage enrollment, roster synchronization, grade book integration all through the university’s preferred LMS.

The upgrade to the Piazza platform will extend integrated support to the leading LMS’s used by universities including Blackboard, Canvas, D2L’s Brightspace, Moodle and Sakai. As students and instructors continue to teach and learn from disparate locations, or on campus, the protocol integration will offer key features and benefits to securely manage logins and course enrollments.

Key features of the upgrade to Piazza’s platform include:

  • Allows administrators to more easily provision and manage class creation and class enrollments on Piazza through the university’s LMS
  • Enables single sign on via the university’s identify provider
  • Enables automatic roster synchronization for seamless enrollment from LMS to Piazza, including roster updates during add/drop period
  • Integrates student participation with grade book, which ports usage and participation statistics on Piazza to the university’s LMS.
