DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas announced today that it will begin its new continuous Open Enrollment process on January 21, 2020 at 9 a.m. CST by accepting preliminary applications for its Housing Choice Voucher Program including the Walker Settlement Voucher Program and the Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program.
DHA is responsible for managing 17,000 vouchers and starting the new year has limited additional housing assistance payment funds available from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental housing assistance program funded by HUD. The program assists low to moderate income persons, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities to reside in safe, decent, rental housing they can afford.
Walker Settlement Vouchers are allocated for Class Members only (African-Americans), who agree to live in a “high opportunity” area with low poverty that is not a minority neighborhood.
The Mainstream Housing Voucher Program is for non-elderly persons who have a disability and are between the age of 18 and 62, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness or institutionalization.
Preliminary applications will be accepted during Open Enrollment, which begins at 9 a.m. CST Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Applicants may submit a preliminary application online on DHA’s website: dhantx.com.
Applicants without internet access at home may use computers at any branch of the Dallas Public Library or are welcome to use a kiosk at the DHA office located at 2575 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, TX, 75212. To submit a preliminary application, you must have an active email account. Persons in need of an email address may register for a free email account through an internet provider of their choice.
The newly adopted open enrollment process enables DHA to accept pre-applications on an on-going basis instead of limiting it to a few days. DHA has adopted new technology and processes that allow for continuous enrollment so that more families will have the opportunity to apply for rental housing assistance.
DHA has provided a video to help applicants navigate the process, which can be viewed here:
