DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Law360, a trusted legal news and analysis publication, named Baron & Budd shareholder Scott Summy a 2024 Environmental MVP, an honor awarded to attorneys whose victories contributed most to their practice areas in the past year.
Summy, who leads Baron & Budd’s Environmental Litigation Group, is known for his ability to negotiate complex environmental legal matters. In 2023, he secured the largest water contamination settlement in American history against 3M Company, totaling $12.5 billion, as co-lead counsel in a nationwide class action. Most recently, he received final court approval of a $1.185 billion settlement against DuPont and other manufacturers, which will be distributed to public water systems across the U.S. to compensate for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination detected in their supplies. Summy secured similar pending settlements with Tyco Fire Products for $750 million and BASF for $312.5 million.
“I am proud to have Scott leading the charge on environmental litigation,” said Russell Budd, Baron & Budd managing shareholder. “His work demonstrates not only his legal talent but his deep commitment to protecting our communities.”
Each year, Law360 identifies five attorneys in several areas of practice, including environmental law, who notched extraordinary wins and made significant contributions.
“Receiving this honor reflects not just my efforts but the collective commitment of our team to safeguard our communities,” said Summy. “Every American deserves access to clean, safe water, and our victories are a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice for those affected by environmental harm.”
