LONGVIEW, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Attorneys at Miller Fair Henry, a trial firm formerly known as Ward, Smith & Hill, secured a national top verdict for 2023, according to an analysis of court records reported by TopVerdict.com, which publishes annual lists of the largest financial recoveries obtained by attorneys and firms around the country.
In a case relating to 4G/LTE and 5G wireless networks, name partner Andrea Fair represented Finesse Wireless in a January 2023 trial alongside former partner Johnny Ward and co-counsel from Susman Godfrey LLP, including lead trial lawyer Joseph Grinstein and team members Meng Xi, Shawn Blackburn, Meg Griffith, and Bryce Barcelo. The team argued that AT&T's networks using Nokia-made equipment in cell towers infringed two Finesse patents related to reducing wireless-signal interference. Ms. Fair handled the damages case at trial, including presenting her client’s expert and cross-examining the defendant’s damages expert. The jury award of $166,303,391 eventually turned into a $181 million judgment, which AT&T has appealed.
The result was ranked 11th in Texas and 28th nationally by TopVerdict.com across all practice areas. The case is Finesse Wireless LLC v. AT&T Mobility LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Ms. Fair helped secure another top state verdict for the year in Atlas Global Technologies Co., Ltd. v. TP-Link Technologies Co. et al., in August 2023. In that case, jurors found that TP-Link infringed five patents containing inventions that make improvements to WiFi technology and awarded $37,483,264 in damages, which resulted in a judgment of more than $41 million, currently on appeal at the Federal Circuit.
This year, Ms. Fair and her team secured a $122 million jury verdict in another patent infringement case, on which judgment of more than $136 million was entered in September. She is also a finalist for Intellectual Property Attorney of the Year, an honor from American Lawyer Media and Law.com through its Texas Legal Awards.
Ms. Fair and other attorneys from the firm also secured the state’s fifth- and sixth-largest intellectual property verdicts in 2022. Each ranked in the top 20 overall, according to an analysis by Texas Lawyer magazine and The National Law Journal.
