Archive Unites Nearly 20 Brands for Sustainable "Second Hand September" Celebration

Dr. Martens, The North Face, Oscar de la Renta, Sandro and Ulla Johnson Are Among the Resale Platform’s Brand Partners Offering Special Activations Throughout the Month

September Initiative Encourages Consumers to Shop Sustainably at a Time When Fashion Typically Showcases Only New Products on the Runways and in Stores

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Archive, which powers innovative, profitable circular businesses for global brands, today announced that nearly 20 brands will be participating in Second Hand September, a campaign started by UK charity Oxfam, which highlights the benefits of shopping pre-loved items and encourages consumers to give clothes a longer life. Dr. Martens, The North Face, Oscar de la Renta, Sandro and Ulla Johnson are among the brands partnering with Archive to amplify the September campaign by launching special activations and promotions during the month. Second Hand September encourages consumers to embrace sustainability by purchasing pre-owned items during a month when the fashion industry has historically focused on showcasing only new products on the runways.

“We’re thrilled so many of our brand partners are participating in Second Hand September this year,” said Emily Gittins, Co-founder and CEO of Archive. “The rise in participation reflects a growing commitment to minimizing waste and landfill accrual in the fashion industry. We’re proud to partner with these forward-thinking fashion companies to make shopping secondhand more accessible and desirable for consumers during this monthlong activation and all through the year.”

By championing secondhand shopping, Archive and its brand partners are actively working to reduce the industry’s environmental impacts and encourage consumers to shift to a more circular fashion model—one that emphasizes extending the lifecycle of garments through resale, reuse and recycling.

Nearly two dozen prominent fashion and footwear brands will join forces with Archive to celebrate Second Hand September this year, engaging consumers through special in-store and online activations, including curated collections, promotions, styling events and live panel discussions. Brands including Diane von Furstenberg, Ba&sh, Sandro, Maje, M.M.LaFleur, HOBO, and Ulla Johnson will all be selling pre-loved fashions in their brick-and-mortar stores throughout the month, so customers can browse and try on these items in person. Other brands will be running discounts, promotions, and marketing campaigns online. Participating brands are committed to raising awareness about the importance of secondhand fashion and making it simple, convenient and enjoyable for consumers to extend the useful lives of preloved items and make more sustainable choices. Brands will also share special content on their social channels under the #SecondHandSeptember hashtag.
