HYANNIS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Coastal Medical Transportation Systems (CMTS), a privately owned and operated medical transportation company dedicated to providing the highest quality of care with compassion, dignity, and respect for customers and their patients, today announced the launch of its Coastal EMS Academy. The emergency medical technician (EMT) accredited training institution was created to address the current shortage of EMTs, especially in the Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts areas. Designed to provide students with a high-quality foundational EMT education, participants will benefit from a comprehensive and accelerated program that will allow them to earn their certification and significantly shorten the time it takes to enter the ambulance workforce.
The Coastal EMS Academy offers a fast-paced, immersive curriculum in just eight weeks versus the more common 12–16-week curriculum offered by traditionally paced programs. Through classroom and hands-on training, students learn how to manage emergencies in the out-of-hospital environment including but not limited to medical, traumatic, obstetric, psychiatric, pediatric, geriatric, and environmental emergencies. Led by a faculty comprised of experienced EMS professionals, the 160-hour Massachusetts-accredited program was designed to prepare students to function in the field as pre-hospital care providers and take the National Registry EMT examinations. The curriculum follows the National Standard Curriculum and meets or exceeds the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) requirements.
“As a locally owned and operated medical transportation and ambulance service, we are excited to announce the launch of the Coastal EMS Academy offering an accelerated and high-quality EMT training program that will prepare enrollees for their first job working in an ambulance environment,” said Michael Pieretti Jr., Chief Quality Officer and Executive Vice President, Clinical Care, Coastal Medical Transportation Systems. “Our model to success is to offer a variety of scheduling and pacing options for the diverse needs of the students out there, from evening and weekend programs to fast-paced Monday through Friday courses. This accommodates traditional students and those who may be juggling other personal or professional obligations. This approach allows them to compress the learning process without loss of quality, gain their certification and enter the workforce in an expedited manner.”
The inaugural Coastal EMS Academy program kicks off on September 9th, with classes taking place at the Quincy Training Center on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm-10pm and on Saturdays from 9am-5pm. Course tuition is $1,595.00 and includes the textbook and access to the program’s online learning management system, as well as EMS Testing to prepare for the written EMT certification exam. CMTS plans to hold multiple EMT courses at the company’s Quincy location throughout the year, with plans to expand to Worcester and other locations next Spring.
