Reading Horizons Receives Missouri's Recommendation as a State-Approved Supplemental Literacy Program for Grades K–5

Reading Horizons was one of just nine programs included on the approved list for K–5 supplemental instructional materials

KAYSVILLE, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Reading Horizons, the leading provider of foundational literacy instruction, announces it has been approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for K–5 supplemental instructional materials. Missouri joins more than 40 states in aligning instruction with the science of reading, and its Read, Lead, Exceed initiative will dedicate $25 million in state funding and just over $35 million in federal funding to support student literacy.

Reading Horizons is proud to be a proven partner in Missouri. Its evidence-based foundational literacy programs currently serve nearly 70,000 students across 22 school districts in Missouri; it plans to increase its impact exponentially during the upcoming school year.

“Having an opportunity to positively impact thousands of striving students across Missouri inspires everyone at Reading Horizons. Using our evidence-based method—crafted from over 40 years of innovation and research—we’re eager to empower Missouri educators to eradicate illiteracy in the state,” said Tyson Smith, CEO of Reading Horizons. “We take pride in being more than just a reading curriculum; we’re a supportive partner invested in the success of Missouri educators—and the students they serve.”

Reading Horizons Discovery®, which recently received a prestigious all-green rating from EdReports for supplemental-foundational reading skills, offers tech-enabled, explicit, systematic, and sequential instruction in phonics and decoding paired with phonemic awareness. The program helps educators harness the power of the science of reading to accelerate student literacy outcomes for K-3 students. Reading Horizons Elevate® is built off the same principles and methodology—with age-appropriate learning materials—and supports striving readers in grades four and above.

Student outcomes are why Reading Horizons exists. Through third-party research, Reading Horizons continues to receive validation for the effectiveness of its programs in boosting phonemic awareness, decoding, and oral fluency scores. See all of Reading Horizons’ research here.
