Online School Seniors to Accept Diplomas in Virtual Graduation Ceremony

K12 International Academy Students From Across the Globe to Attend June 28th Graduation

HERNDON, Va.--()--K12 International Academy (iCademy), an accredited online private school open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade worldwide, will honor the Class of 2018 on Thursday, June 28. Unlike traditional graduation ceremonies for brick-and-mortar schools, this innovative ceremony will happen online starting at 12 p.m. EDT.

“At K12 International Academy, we believe a child’s ability to get a great education should not be limited by geography, and our diverse population of students from across the globe is proof,” said head of school Leslie Smith. “This graduating class has benefitted from a combination of innovative technology, excellent teachers and a rigorous curriculum, which has set them up for success in the next chapter of their lives.”

The K12 International Academy student population represents every state in the U.S. and over 90 countries around the globe. Most students take a college preparatory curriculum over a four-year period and students graduate with a U.S. diploma. Eligible seniors may also enroll in a dual enrollment program to obtain college credits.

This year, 135 students from 31 states and 19 countries will graduate from iCademy. The Class of 2018 reports it has been offered more than $2 million in college scholarships collectively. Graduates report that they have been accepted to prestigious colleges and universities across the country, including Arizona State University, Baylor University, California State University-Northridge, Emory-Riddle Aeronautical University, George Washington University, Hofstra University, James Madison University, Stanford University, Syracuse University, University of Alabama, University of Colorado, University of Florida, University of North Carolina, University of Texas and Virginia Tech. Some graduates also plan to attend schools overseas, including Australia National University, London School of Economics, Instituto de Empresa University, the Hague University of Applied Science, University of Sheffield, University of St. Andrews and Vrije Universiteit.

Paul-Antoine Seitz and Olivia Archer are co-valedictorians. Seitz, who graduated high school early, has lived across the globe and plans to attend McGill University in Montreal. Archer will attend Elon University on a full-ride tennis scholarship. The Class of 2018 salutatorian is Laura Vazquez del Mercado. The native of Bogota, Colombia, will attend IE University in Madrid, where she will double major in business administration and law.

All three students will address their classmates, along with guest speaker Josephine Chuah, a 2012 iCademy alumna who currently lives in Malaysia, where she works for a company that teaches foreign language through live online lessons.
