Deutsche Bank to Sponsor Youth Sprint Clinic in New York

NEW YORK--()--In line with its commitment to the local community, Deutsche Bank, along with Digital Asset Holdings, Rekortan, and Nike, is set to sponsor a youth sprint clinic at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.

The event will inaugurate a series of clinics in cities across the United States organized by Justin Gatlin, the American champion who bested 2016 Olympic champion Usain Bolt in the latter’s final 100-meter dash to win the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London last month. Gatlin is the 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 100m, a multi-time world champion, and one of the most accomplished sprinters of his generation.

Gatlin is organizing this important event to promote community service and inclusion with the help of his mentor, Deutsche Bank Managing Director and USATF board member Bill Shelton.

The Gatlin Foundation clinics are designed to build cohesion among the nation’s youth and remove artificial barriers that foment division.

USATF supports all its athletes in their efforts to give back to their communities,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “Justin and the Justin Gatlin Foundation, as well as all Team USATF athletes, will create inspiring and exciting environments for the next generation as they continue their journey in the sport through clinics like these. Justin works daily to instill kindness, confidence, and competition in youth.”

The event is expected to draw approximately 100 children from throughout the city, and each participant will receive a free picture taken with Gatlin. Additionally, four track and field stars will serve as coaches.

The event will no doubt incubate new friendships, empathy, and perspective,” said John Eydenberg, Chairman of the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation and Chair of the US Diversity & Inclusion Council. “Throughout our nation’s history, sports have brought Americans together time and again by bridging the chasms that have tragically emerged, and this event is one way that Deutsche Bank can contribute to this important work. It shows that we really care.”
