Vizient, Inc. Announces Finalists for its Fifth Annual Innovation Challenge

IRVING, Texas--()--Vizient, Inc. announces the four finalists for its annual Innovation Challenge, an event designed to showcase some of the best new innovative solutions in health care from early stage growth companies. Areas of focus included health IT, medical devices and wearable/body sensors. The event, now in its fifth year, will be held at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, during the opening session of the Vizient Clinical Connections Summit at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The four companies were chosen from a pool of 40 submissions that were sourced from an outreach that spanned 29 states, Washington D.C. and 10 countries. The four contestants in the 2017 Innovation Challenge are:

  • BrainStem Biometrics Inc. - Sedation brainstem monitor. Optimizes the sedation level for elderly ICU patients to reduce direct costs and mortality from over-medication.
  • Magnolia Medical Technologies - SteriPath® Blood Culture Collection System. SteriPath is clinically proven to virtually eliminate blood culture contamination to a rate of 0.2% - a 92% reduction in contamination.
  • Mighty Oak Medical - FIREFLY® Technology. A 3-D printed, patient-specific pedicle screw navigation guide for mechanical guidance and superior accuracy.
  • MobileODT - The EVA System. Connected devices enabling non-specialist health providers to conduct expert examinations by building portable, affordable and smart medical devices used for a range of early examinations for life threatening diseases.

“Vizient is a champion of bringing innovation into health care. This competition is an interactive and entertaining format that will give our members a firsthand look at four innovative and compelling solutions designed to help improve the quality and delivery of patient care,” said Byron Jobe, president, chief administrative and financial officer. “We wish all four companies tremendous success during the competition.”

Mike Maddock, entrepreneur, innovator and author, will serve as emcee for the competition. Each finalist will deliver an eight-minute pitch then answer questions from an expert panel that includes the chief executive officers from two Vizient member hospitals,. At the conclusion of the presentations, the audience of roughly 2,000 health care professionals attending the 2017 Vizient Clinical Connections Summit will vote for their favorite innovation using real-time polling technology. The company receiving the most votes will be named winner of the 2017 Innovation Challenge.
