New Division of Hurst Review Announces Inaugural Award Recognizing Gold Standard of Excellence in Nursing

BROOKHAVEN, Miss.--()--Hurst Ratings and Analytics, a new division of Hurst Review Services Inc., announced today the Hurst Gold Standard of Nursing Award, the first award by a ratings service to celebrate outstanding nursing care based on industry quality indicators.

“As experienced nurses, the Hurst Review team knows the hard work and dedication it takes to achieve the highest standards of patient care. We felt it was time to acknowledge the contribution nurses make to quality health care each day,” says Marlene Hurst, RN MS CCRN ANP-C, founder of Hurst Review Services.

There are approximately 3.1 million nurses in the United States. Nurses make up the majority of hospital staff and are the primary providers of patient care. The quality of their care and communication directly impacts hospital patient satisfaction ratings.

The new division, Hurst Ratings and Analytics, tracks performance measures specific to nursing dimensions that impact the patient experience. The data is compiled quarterly from the most recent publicly available Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The quality indicators used to define the Hurst Gold Standard of Nursing include patients’ perceptions of nursing clinical skills, communication skills, prompt responsiveness to needs, friendliness and courtesy, and attitudes and attention paid to special or personal requests.

Hospital nursing staffs that achieve the highest ratings in the nursing-specific quality indicators are presented with the Hurst Gold Standard of Nursing Award. The award acknowledges contribution to excellence in health care, and the seal represents a sign of assurance for patients and their families of the gold-standard nursing care they can expect at a Hurst-recognized facility.
