ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Harrisonburg Emergency Physicians, based in Harrisonburg, Virginia, has selected McKesson Business Performance Services (McKesson) for revenue cycle management services on the strength of McKesson’s powerful healthcare business intelligence reporting and hands-on client management.
Harrisonburg Emergency Physicians is an independent, 17-physician practice that provides emergency medicine services for Sentara RMH Medical Center, a 238-bed community hospital serving Harrisonburg and seven counties in the Shenandoah Valley. The practice averages about 73,000 emergency visits annually.
In addition to business intelligence reporting, McKesson will provide the group with:
- Healthcare regulatory compliance and medical coding
- Physician enrollment and credentialing
- Medical claims and denial management
- Clinical documentation assistance
- Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) reporting
- Managed care contract review
Ian Steines, MD, managing partner with the group, said McKesson’s flexible business intelligence reporting, which allows for a wide range of custom reports, equips the practice with previously unavailable operational and financial insight.
“McKesson’s reporting is superior to anything else we’ve seen in the marketplace,” Steines said. “The ability to drill down to gather information at both the individual provider and facility levels is enormously helpful. This allows us to make accurate assessments about productivity, case mix and revenue, and helps us collaborate more effectively with our hospital partners.” He added that McKesson’s technology platform likewise enables rapid communication between coders and physicians to help expedite claims.
Steines emphasized that McKesson excels at providing experienced client management as part of its comprehensive approach to customer service. “One of the things that is most impressive about McKesson is the extent to which they make an effort to truly understand the challenges and opportunities practices face, and then work to help us identify the best path forward,” he said. “We feel very fortunate to have them in our corner.”
Pat Leonard, president of McKesson Business Performance Services, said McKesson continues to expand its presence among emergency medicine practices throughout Virginia. Many of the company’s new clients have come to McKesson largely on the strength of referrals, he said.
“We are now providing revenue cycle management services for practices that account for approximately 675,000 emergency department visits annually in Virginia,” Leonard said. “As we expand in the commonwealth and throughout the mid-Atlantic region, our experience with the payer and provider communities helps us continually reinforce and strengthen our knowledge of the regional business landscape. We look forward to helping other emergency groups in the area prosper in today’s challenging healthcare marketplace.”
