DUARTE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and cancer and diabetes treatment center, and San Antonio Regional Hospital announced today an affiliation agreement that will significantly expand access to leading-edge, high-quality cancer care, research and services in the Inland Empire.
The partnership’s goal is to combine City of Hope’s world-class cancer care and research expertise with San Antonio Regional Hospital’s 100-plus year tradition of providing high-quality patient care to improve access to the latest in cancer diagnosis and treatment for residents in the Inland Empire.
City of Hope physicians will provide clinical leadership for the new effort, including a medical director of the oncology program and a medical director for the radiation oncology program, located on the campus of San Antonio Regional Hospital’s new $160 million expanded facility.
The collaboration is focused on creating a seamless oncology system of care where patients can access a full spectrum of medical and surgical cancer services conveniently in their own community.
As part of the relationship, City of Hope will develop a comprehensive outpatient cancer center, a multidisciplinary center of excellence providing radiation oncology, medical and surgical oncology, chemotherapy and other cancer-related services in San Antonio Regional Hospital’s new ambulatory center being developed directly across the street from the hospital campus. Construction on the center is expected to begin sometime this year.

Koenig said the hospital has spent the last several years undergoing a major expansion, investing more than $160 million in a new patient tower and larger emergency room. “This affiliation is consistent of our mission to improve access to highly personalized and advanced medical care as part of our expanded health care footprint in the Inland Empire,” he added.
City of Hope is one of 47 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. It is recognized for research and treatment regimens that have helped advance cancer care across the nation and internationally.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
