SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), in partnership with Pizza Hut, LLC, today launched Squares Pick’em, the first digital game of its kind on Yahoo Sports that lets football fans play along with the Big Game.
"We want to create the best fantasy sports experiences for our users and, working with Pizza Hut, we’re making one of the biggest traditions for football fans across the country digital with the new Squares Pick’em game," said Lisa Utzschneider, Chief Revenue Officer at Yahoo. "For Pizza Hut, the big win is finding that authentic connection between its brand and deeply engaged consumers in this fun gaming experience."
Squares Pick’em is a new take on a popular game-day tradition. Starting today, sports fans can sign up for the new Squares Pick’em game and easily fill out their grids through the Yahoo Fantasy app and desktop experience. After signing up, users can invite friends to pick Pizza Hut-themed boxes on a 10x10 grid. Each square equals a possible score at the end of every quarter of the football game. If the square you pick matches the score at the end of the quarter, you win ultimate bragging rights.
Yahoo is offering this new game during the most watched sporting event of the year, and the busiest day of the year for Pizza Hut. From office groups to viewing parties, Yahoo’s Squares Pick’em game is a fun way to enhance the game watching experience and challenge family, friends and colleagues. Similar to Yahoo Fantasy Football, commissioners in Squares Pick’em can set up private leagues and establish settings for their specific league before inviting friends to join.
"The entire sports viewing occasion has changed, with digital engagement being as much a part of it as the game itself, which is why we’re excited to be part of the launch for this new digital game from Yahoo Sports," said David Daniels, Vice President of Advertising & Media at Pizza Hut. "Squares Pick'em on Yahoo takes a classic game and makes it even better. Friends and family can now eat Pizza Hut pizza and play Squares Pick’em wherever they’re watching the game."
In 2016, the Super Bowl was one of the most visited days of the year on Yahoo Sports and fans spend nearly 30 billion minutes a year playing fantasy sports on Yahoo. Pizza Hut set a digital sales record during last year’s big game, as fans flocked to the brand’s variety of digital ordering options. This year, Pizza Hut will be featured in display, search and email advertising to drive sign ups for the Squares Pick’em game on Yahoo Sports. Yahoo will also promote the new game through the blogs Shutdown Corner, RotoArcade and additional NFL editorial.
