CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company, has named Andrew Ziskind, MD, the new senior vice president of academic strategy on its executive team.
An interventional cardiologist with more than 25 years of clinical and administrative experience, Dr. Ziskind will focus on helping academic health systems reposition themselves for the future under integrated population health management and alternative payment models, achieve top quality and efficiency outcomes, and ensure support for their research and education missions.
“Academic health systems have distinct needs as they look to both holistically improve research and education efforts as well as quality, cost and population health outcomes,” said Susan DeVore, president and CEO, Premier. “Dr. Ziskind’s extensive experience in this space is a valuable asset that supports Premier’s strategic capabilities to offer forward-looking, next generation solutions to test and scale transformational academic care models.”
Academic health systems are unique in that their mission is threefold: to provide high-quality care, often for patients with highly complex conditions, while educating future clinicians and conducting research. Dr. Ziskind has extensive experience developing and leading innovative primary care and specialty delivery systems that span academic medical centers, community hospitals and their affiliated physicians. He has vast knowledge and leadership involvement in accountable care, payment reform and population health management. Dr. Ziskind has led strategic efforts to transform academic and community-based multispecialty practices, restructured management and leadership teams, and partnered with academic and community hospitals to improve clinical outcomes while reducing the total cost of care. In 2013, Consulting Magazine named Ziskind as one of the top 25 consultants in America.
“I am thrilled to be working with Premier alliance members and look forward to leading strategic and successful partnerships with academic health systems across the U.S.,” said Dr. Ziskind.
Before joining Premier, Dr. Ziskind was the managing director for healthcare transformation at Huron and a partner at Accenture. Prior to that, he was the president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the primary adult teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine. He also served as group president and senior vice president for healthcare reform for BJC Healthcare. As the vice dean for clinical affairs and the associate vice president for clinical programs at the University of Washington (UW), Dr. Ziskind oversaw the development of key regional service lines including UW Medicine Spine Center and the Regional Heart Center. In addition, Dr. Ziskind served as the director of the University of Maryland Cardiac Network and the vice president for clinical services of UniversityCARE.
Dr. Ziskind earned his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College and doctor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He also received an MBA from Loyola College of Maryland.
