Message.io Partners with Microsoft to Translate Bots to Microsoft Teams Platform

Message.io also announces $2.5 million seed funding

AUSTIN, Texas--()--Message.io, the standard for bot syndication, today announced it is partnering with Microsoft to allow bots built on other messaging platforms to be easily ported to Microsoft Teams, the new chat-based workspace in Office 365.

Message.io allows developers who have built a bot for one messaging platform to instantly scale that bot to other messaging platforms. By working with Microsoft, Message.io is making it easy for developers to translate their bots from other platforms like Slack or HipChat to the Microsoft Teams platform. Message.io ensures that the user experience will be seamlessly mapped to allow cross-platform deployment. This translation allows the bot ecosystem to scale agnostic of specific platforms.

“We’re excited to partner with Microsoft to help developers rapidly deploy their existing bots to the Microsoft Teams platform,” said Tom Hadfield, the CEO of Message.io. “By translating existing bots and integrating them on Microsoft Teams, we’re enhancing the opportunity for developers to reach the 85 million monthly active users of Office 365, and helping extend the capabilities of Microsoft Teams.”

Today, over 100 companies have committed to using Message.io to translate their bots to Microsoft Teams, including Kayak, HubSpot, Nuzzle, Lucidchart, Wizeline and Poncho.

“Microsoft Teams provides new opportunities for developers to reach millions of enterprise users globally,” said Niraj Patel, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Microsoft Teams. “Message.io makes it easy for developers to deploy their existing bots on the Microsoft Teams platform.”

In addition to the partnership, Message.io is also announcing their seed funding. The $2.5 million round is led by Khosla Ventures and Eniac Ventures, with participation from Goldcrest Capital, Two Sigma, Y Combinator, Capital Factory, Social Leverage. Angel investors participating in the round also include Scott Banister, Kevin Moore, Louis Beryl, Elies Campo, Sandy Cass, Vinny Lingham and Stuart Levinson.

Message.io will use the funding to rapidly expand support for additional enterprise and consumer messaging platforms. In addition to Microsoft Teams, Message.io currently supports bot translation for Slack and HipChat, with plans to add Salesforce Chatter, Cisco Spark and other platforms in the coming months.
