NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tegile Systems, the leading provider of flash-driven storage arrays for databases, virtualized server and virtual desktop environments, today announced a partnership to run Splunk analytics on Tegile IntelliFlash. Through the integration, businesses of all sizes are able to capture insights from the explosion of machine-generated data (MGD) and Internet of Things (IoT) data by combining Splunk’s operational intelligence platform with Tegile’s unique storage infrastructure, which scales both storage performance and capacity without disruption.
Tegile is the only storage provider that combines multiple types of storage media into a single volume. As a result, Splunk and Tegile IntelliFlash automatically place hot, warm and cold data to the appropriate storage tier within the same storage array and file system based on the stage of the Splunk pipeline: Ingest, Search, Index, Query, and Visualize. This reduces the overall workload during hot to warm/cold data bucket movement. In contrast, other storage vendors segregate hot and warm/cold buckets on different storage arrays, forcing Splunk to read and write all data during every data movement. This is especially cumbersome for large, enterprise environments where an admin would have to manage hundreds of volumes.
“Backing our Splunk infrastructure with Tegile has opened the door to new performance gains and unparalleled simplicity,” said Ron Shock, Splunk architect at VisiCore. “With our Tegile storage array, we’ve already realized 41 percent savings, even on the data already compressed by Splunk. For organizations that require efficiency and 100 percent availability, Tegile is the most compelling choice.”
Tegile is able to reduce query time through Splunk by providing flash-optimized storage and metadata. Since Tegile enables all data bucket rolls to occur within the same array, file system and volume, data movement becomes a simple metadata update within the array. Tegile’s patented metadata acceleration process isolates and aggregates metadata on flash, reducing the query time significantly. Tegile also compresses the already-compressed Splunk data upon ingest into the array, resulting in improved data reduction ratios and cost savings.
Notable use cases include:
- Predictive analytics for IT operations: Make sense of syslog or NOC data, especially helpful for CIOs looking to implement predictive analytics for IT operations
- Security information and event management: Centralize and report security-oriented data for a holistic understanding of an organization's IT security
- IoT and real-time business analytics: Monetize raw data generated by customer machine data
“Connected devices will soon outpace the number of people in the world. That creates a boundless opportunity for businesses to benefit from customer and business data -- but only if they can properly store, access and analyze it,” said Chris Tsilipounidakis, senior manager of product marketing at Tegile. “Working with Splunk, we’ve created an unrivaled solution that makes it easy for businesses to both immediately take advantage of querying today’s data and guarantee the ability to scale performance and capacity in the future.”
Customers can also use the Tegile IntelliFlash App for Splunk to retrieve relevant data from Tegile storage arrays and display it within the Splunk user interface for a single-pane-of-glass view of one or multiple Tegile storage arrays. The type of data retrieved includes array controllers, pools, volumes and mappings to assist administrators in monitoring and management.
