Twenty-nine-year-old Jarrett Bauer, CEO of Health Recovery Solutions (HRS), was recently honored by NJBIZ on its coveted New Jersey's “Forty Under 40” list. This prestigious directory includes the state's most accomplished and dynamic leaders under the age of 40 who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence, and community welfare.
Mr. Bauer, a graduate of Villanova University and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, co-founded HRS in 2012. Dedicated to reduction of readmissions with its software and advanced telehealth wireless integrated devices, HRS has already had significant impact on both personal and community levels. Since its first home installation, HRS’ proprietary software has already successfully monitored over 8,000 patients.
When asked how his vision for HRS was conceived, Bauer said, “I have always thought that one of the worst possible things is not having a voice or the tools to succeed once you leave the hospital. But once I saw my grandmother was unnecessarily readmitted, I knew I had to put together a team that could create software that really focuses on engaging patients and that would clinically address the main reasons for readmissions. I found the right partners and went to work. Since then, the software platform we developed has improved the lives of many patients, and even saved a few.”
In a story that draws parallels to Silicon Valley success stories, this enterprise began with three earnest and underfunded entrepreneurs.
To conserve resources, Bauer and his partners, Dan Priece and Rohan Udeshi, lived in five different apartments during their first two years with HRS. Communal living was a thrifty measure, but just as importantly, personal proximity sparked continuous combustion of ideas and improvements.
Bauer said, “We couldn’t escape each other, which was a good thing. Not that it was always easy. One of the apartments, a NYC studio, housed me and six of our first team members. I had to sleep in the tub. Anyone using the shower had to wake me up!” Bauer added, “In the end it was well worth it. All company revenue was reinvested in R&D, resulting in the sophisticated and user software we use today.”
Those early days are long behind Jarrett Bauer and his HRS family. Now, the company’s software platform is being used in 40 leading medical centers across the country. New Jersey installations include some of the most renowned medical centers in the state, including BAYADA, Community VNA, CentraState Medical Center, and Valley Home Health. Right now we are seeing that the average patient is spending 20 minutes a day on our system. We are focused on how do we improve those patient activation levels every day. From a clinician level, we are continually adding features to our mobile apps that allow for true case management. Nurses using our system get real-time biometric data, to their phone, information about their patients and we continually focus on ways to provide the data that will make their jobs more efficient…there are always ways to help nurses.”
The company has shown no signs of letting up as they have added a new state the art innovative center and development facility in Hoboken. In January, Jarrett was named to Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30,” for the company’s bright future, clinical results and innovation in the arena of home care.
