Martin Shkreli achieved notoriety – while thrusting the pharmaceutical industry into the spotlight – when his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, raised the price of the antiparasitic drug Daraprim by 5,556% a tablet. In November 2015, an investor group led by Martin acquired a majority stake in KaloBios Pharmaceuticals. However, the company filed for bankruptcy shortly after Shkreli’s arrest in December and KaloBios’ recent emergence from bankruptcy was conditioned, in part, on the acquisition of Savant’s benznidazole program.
