ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BAE Systems, Inc. today announced that retired Navy Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert has been appointed to its board of directors for a three-year term.
“Admiral Greenert brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from a distinguished, 40-year career as a senior military officer and government leader,” said Michael Chertoff, chairman, BAE Systems, Inc. board of directors. “His experience in management, operations, and strategic planning will be highly valuable, and I’m pleased to welcome him to the board.”
Prior to his retirement in October, Admiral Greenert served a combined six years as the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and Vice Chief of Naval Operations, the two most senior military positions in the Navy. As CNO, he served as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He advised the President and the Secretary of Defense on a range of matters, including U.S. and global maritime security, overall naval operations and budget, and the positioning of Navy bases, ships, and aircraft. He also oversaw the development of technologies in such areas as advanced weaponry and unmanned underwater vehicles.
Previously, he commanded four Navy fleet commands and the nuclear-powered submarine USS Honolulu. He is the recipient of various awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.
