DreamBox Learning Launches AssignFocus®, Empowers Teachers with Lesson Assignment Controls That Enable Real-Time Classroom Differentiation

Newest Innovation in Intelligent Adaptive Learning technology supports teacher and learner engagement, leverages student proficiency data to personalize learning

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--DreamBox Learning today announced a new feature in the company’s award-winning K-8 math curriculum that empowers teachers to make assignments in the program that align with their classroom curriculum. AssignFocus® enables teachers to easily create focused assignments using real-time proficiency data about each learner. DreamBox then automatically differentiates lessons for each student based on their own unique needs. This feature represents the newest application of DreamBox’s pioneering adaptive learning technology to support great teaching and learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

“DreamBox is committed to partnering with schools and districts to ensure teachers have the tools they need to activate personalized learning in both blended and traditional school models,” said Jessie Woolley-Wilson, CEO of DreamBox Learning. “Educators have told us about their desire for relevant, timely and actionable data that will impact learning at the point of instruction. Whether AssignFocus is used to establish a baseline of understanding at the start of a new unit or to reinforce concepts students are learning today in class, teachers now have a powerful new way to leverage DreamBox’s dynamic math curriculum to easily meet students right where they are.”

With real-time student-level proficiency data at their fingertips, teachers simply assign a math standard or concept to an entire class or group of students. By leveraging the power of its intelligent adaptive engine, DreamBox engages those students with strategically differentiated lessons the next time they log in. Recommended lessons take into account each student’s prior knowledge, demonstrated proficiency and readiness for learning. Teachers can use AssignFocus to prepare the class for an upcoming unit, give a homework assignment for a recent classroom lesson, or review for an upcoming assessment.

AssignFocus also helps teachers and students as they focus their efforts on meeting IEP and RTI learning goals. This feature is yet another way that DreamBox ensures that students get the right lessons at the right time without requiring teachers to analyze additional data and create custom content for each student. DreamBox leverages its adaptive capabilities to start assigned lessons at the right level of difficulty for each individual student, and continues adapting both during and between lessons. This represents a significant improvement over digital math programs that give teachers only the ability to create non-adaptive linear playlists that behave much like a digital packet of worksheets.

“Empowering students to move at their own pace while supporting daily classroom math lessons, in addition to ensuring everyone is prepared for state assessments, is a significant challenge in today’s classrooms,” said Woolley-Wilson. “At a time when most teachers are limited by pacing calendars and schools primarily use student birthdates to determine what a student is learning on any given day in math, AssignFocus is an age- and grade-agnostic tool that helps teachers provide differentiated, personalized support based on students’ prior knowledge. That’s good for both learners and learning guardians.”
