SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The second day of the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA)™ 2016 Technology & Standards Spring Forum focused heavily on the emerging health and fitness technology ecosystem. Panel discussions included topics such as patient-generated health data, human performance analytics and the future of chronic illness management.
“Given the rapidly growing innovation and consumer benefits the health and fitness technology sector now offers, we decided to focus more heavily on this emerging sector at our Spring Forum,” said Dave Wilson, vice president, technology & standards, Consumer Technology Association. “The Forum covers the ever-expanding breadth of our industry – that includes the Internet of Things, drones, audio, video and energy efficiency. By drawing in representatives from every corner of the health and fitness ecosystem, this was the perfect opportunity to have meaningful standards discussions and industry collaboration on advancing health and fitness wearable technology.”
Co-located with the Forum, the CTA Health and Fitness Technology Division Board hosted the inaugural CTA Medical Advisory Summit – a first-of-its kind CTA event to foster meaningful discussion between the consumer tech and medical communities. The Summit featured speakers from United Healthcare, Mayo Clinic, NIH, Stanford University School of Medicine, Savvysherpa and more.
“It is a really exciting time in terms of what the medical and consumer technology communities can do together and CTA’s first Medical Advisory Summit is the next step in this journey,” said Jim Mault, M.D., Qualcomm Life and vice chair of CTA's Health and Fitness Technology Division. “The collaborative discussions today touched important topics such as the role of consumer tech in chronic care management, precision medicine and population health, amongst others.”
In addition to the health and fitness tech-focused programming, the WG 1 Sleep Monitors Working Group, R6.4 WG3 Consumer EEG Data Working Group and R6.4 Health and Fitness Technology Subcommittee met this week.
The Forum is co-sponsored by the Personal Connected Health Alliance, which publishes the Continua Design Guidelines, and is holding its own member meetings at the Forum. The full agenda can be found at www.CTA.tech/events.
