SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today leaders in the consumer technology and medical communities convened at the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA)™ inaugural CTA Medical Advisory Summit to chart a collaborative path forward. The first-of-its-kind CTA event featured panels and discussions among the CTA Health and Fitness Technology Division Board, and the medical and scientific communities.
Speakers from United Healthcare, Mayo Clinic, NIH, Stanford University School of Medicine, Savvysherpa and more addressed subjects such as the value of health and fitness technology data for precision medicine and population health, the role of consumer tech in chronic care management and translating the science behind consumer health and fitness tech. The meetings were held in conjunction with CTA’s Technology and Standards Spring Forum, an event with consumer technology experts sharing information, developing standards and working to bring innovative technologies to consumers.
“CTA’s Medical Advisory Summit is a monumental first step in strengthening collaboration between the health and fitness tech and medical communities,” said Jim Mault, M.D., Qualcomm Life and vice chair of CTA’s Health and Fitness Technology Division. “A deeper alliance between these two communities will help unlock the potential for consumer health and fitness tech data to provide more personalized care, drive greater awareness of the benefits of these devices and ultimately, deliver better health outcomes for consumers.”
The CTA Medical Advisory Summit joins a list of the Health and Fitness Technology Division Board’s efforts to advance the industry, including the creation of Guiding Principles on the Privacy and Security of Personal Wellness Data, market research on the topics of active aging tech and wearable fitness activity trackers, and driving physician attendance at CES® – the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, where the digital fitness and health footprints have grown exponentially in recent years.
“A deeper integration with the medical and scientific communities builds upon CTA’s tremendous efforts in advancing the health and fitness tech ecosystem through policy initiatives, standards work, promotional campaigns, research and CES,” said Brian Markwalter, senior vice president, research and standards, Consumer Technology Association.
CTA will conduct another meeting among the tech, medical and scientific communities this Fall in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration.
