Alliant Announces Winners of 2016 Build America Awards

Prestigious award recognizes the top construction projects in the country

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--()--Alliant Insurance Services and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) announced the winners of the 2016 Alliant Build America Awards.

The Alliant Build America Awards highlight the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges representing all areas of construction evaluates an impressive number of submissions every year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques, and client satisfaction, among other criteria. The awards, which were announced during the association’s annual convention in San Antonio, Texas, are considered by many to be the most prestigious recognition of construction accomplishments in the U.S.

“These extraordinary projects showcase the dedication and inspiration that the construction industry offers,” said Peter Arkley, Senior Managing Director, Alliant Insurance Services. “We congratulate this year’s winners – including Alliant clients Clark Construction, Skanska USA Building Inc., and Gilbane Building Company – as well as all of the other nominees for their commitment to excellence. These world-class projects are a source of pride for their local communities and bring jobs to the region, and we are honored to be a longtime sponsor of the Build America Awards.”

“The contractors working on these projects stood out among their peers by demonstrating the finest traits of our industry: skill, dedication, and ingenuity,” said Charles Greco, the association’s president and chairman of San Antonio-based Linbeck Group. “This is the kind of project that inspires other contractors to push even harder as they work to improve our built environment.”

Clark Constriction Group, Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) was awarded the Building New $10M to $199M category. The state-of-the-art Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center has united and revolutionized transit in Orange County with a 67,000 square-foot terminal hosting 10 modes of transportation and 10,000 daily boardings.

Skanska USA was awarded the Environmental Enhancement category for their work on the West Riverfront Park Redevelopment in Nashville, Tennessee. Skanska turned the large brownfield site into a unique event venue using 22 percent less energy than the average LEED baseline and with six percent of its energy needs met by onsite renewable geothermal and solar energy generation systems.

The Building Renovations from $10M to $199M category went to Gilbane Building Company for their work on the 1929 Kings Theatre, a historical landmark in Brooklyn, New York. After closing in 1977, it sustained extensive physical damage as a result of decades of neglect. With Gilbane Building Company as the construction manager, Kings Theatre was completely rehabilitated and restored to its beautiful original state.
