Psa Peugeot Citroën Joins Forces with SNAM to Recycle Its Vehicles' Electric Batteries in Europe

PARIS--()--Regulatory News:

PSA Peugeot Citroën (Paris:UG) has teamed up with SNAM (Société Nouvelle d'Affinage des Métaux), the European leader in battery collection and recycling, as part of its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles over their entire life cycle.

SNAM will be responsible for collecting and recycling high voltage industrial batteries – nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) and lithium-ion – from the Peugeot and Citroën networks of accredited auto repair shops and dealerships in Europe.

Signed as part of a 2012 partnership deal with SNAM in France, this new agreement will ensure that batteries from the Group's end-of-life electric and hybrid vehicles are properly recycled across its network and production sites in Europe. By regenerating raw and other materials, it will also lead to the development of a circular economy.

SNAM is able to recycle up to 80% of the weight of this type of battery, far exceeding the 50% minimum target for recycling efficiency set by European regulations.

The agreement is fully in line with the Group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, which has been praised for its performance and transparency by SRI rating agencies, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project on 4 November 2015.

About SNAM (Société Nouvelle d’Affinage des Métaux)
SNAM, a battery and accumulator recycling company, is a key link in the circular economy chain. Its operations help to mitigate the environmental impacts tied to mining valuable commodity ores and minerals (nickel, cobalt, cadmium) in distant countries, and the CO2 emissions tied to importing them into the European Union. Furthermore, by looping these materials back into the economy, SNAM helps to minimise the amount of waste landfilled on EU territory.
