TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Business Development Center Tokyo (BDCT) has stepped up efforts to help foreign enterprises enter and expand in Japan, with a seminar to provide specialized support.
The Invest Tokyo Seminar 2015 is designed to support foreign companies, entrepreneurs, and members of embassies and foreign chambers of commerce. It will be held on 30 November and conducted in English and Japanese with simultaneous translation.
Vice Governor of Tokyo Nobuhiro Maeda; a Deputy Director from the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan; and a Director from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will deliver speeches. These will be followed by a keynote speech by Mr. Andrew Wylegala, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of the United States of America in Japan, as well as speakers from Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Ms. Noriko Adachi, Director of the National Strategic Special Zone Team of Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Attendees will have ample time for networking and consultations.

BDCT was established to help firms and entrepreneurs from abroad establish a business in the capital. Consultants at the center use their international business experience and detailed local knowledge to deliver tailored consultations for market entry or expansion.
The experts provide hands-on support in English and Japanese, giving advice on navigating Tokyo’s vast size, overcoming Japanese language issues, and understanding the country’s distinctive business customs.
BDCT facilitates business networking and work-related matchmaking opportunities, including introductions to potential Japanese business partners, suppliers, and distributors. As each consultant has a different business background, the center caters to a broad range of business needs.
Businesses have typically approached BDCT on the advice of embassies or chambers of commerce.
Case study
In the rapidly developing café business scene, BDCT supported a young entrepreneur from Denmark, Mr. Peter Buhl, to open a speciality shop in Tokyo offering award-winning Danish-style coffee. Mr. Buhl’s business, in the heart of the fashionable residential area of Aobadai, Meguro Ward, opened on 21 October. It has a strong focus on sustainability and direct trade.
BDCT provided full support for the start-up, introducing Mr. Buhl to specialists, including a real estate agent, an expert to transfer his visa to that of an investor, a bilingual carpenter, and a Certified Public Accountant who will continue to provide long-term business support.
BDCT continues to provide business development support for Mr. Buhl’s wholesale business and coffee classes.
In addition, BDCT provides expats with support on everyday concerns, such as hospitals with multilingual capability and introductions to international schools.
