EDMONTON, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, has further extended its global network with the opening of a new Point of Presence (PoP) at Wolfpaw’s Edmonton Data Center, located at Suite 301, Tower 2, 10060 Jasper Ave, Edmonton, AB T5J 3R8.
With increased network capacity through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) service, customers of Wolfpaw’s Edmonton facility will be able to satisfy their high-speed IP transit needs, as well as realize lower latency and fewer router hops. Additionally, those same customers will have the ability to exchange IP traffic, or “peer,” with Hurricane Electric’s expansive global network, which is Jumbo Frame (9000 byte MTU) compatible.
Hurricane Electric employs a resilient fiber-optic topology, and has four redundant paths crossing North America, two separate paths between the U.S. and Europe, and rings in Europe and Asia. Having first deployed IPv6 in 2001, Hurricane Electric offers IPv6 as a core service; every customer is provided IPv6 connectivity as well as classic IPv4 connectivity. Earlier this year, the company became the first internet backbone in the world to connect to more than 100 different Internet exchanges.
Wolfpaw’s Edmonton raised floor data center features state-of the-art equipment to maintain its impressive record of uptime, including Liebert A/C with remote monitoring, 24x7 on-site Guard check-in, card access, and a 24x7x365 NOC. All of the data center’s critical systems are remotely monitored.
“With the opening of Hurricane Electric’s eighth Canadian Point of Presence, it is clear that the country’s telecommunications market is expanding at an impressive rate,” said Mike Leber, President, Hurricane Electric. “We are excited to facilitate that growth and provide additional connectivity options to Edmonton’s bustling technology sector.”
