NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--College sports fans can download Nissan’s DieHard Fan app to virtually paint their game face using a smartphone or tablet (iOS and select Android devices). The augmented reality app combines a time-tested fan tradition of face painting in team colors, with innovative technology, to deliver an immersive digital experience sure to excite sports fans. This news follows Nissan’s announcement of a historic deal to become the Official Sponsor of 100 colleges and universities nationwide, and a proud supporter of select NCAA Championships. That four-year agreement marks the widest-reaching sponsorship in the history of collegiate sports.
Through use of proprietary and patented facial analysis technology, DieHard Fan App users can select from thousands of game faces, representing nearly all 100 collegiate teams in Nissan’s sponsorship, to instantly “paint” on their game face over a favorite picture or video. The technology is a first, is fast, and lifelike – moving naturally, in real time.
Nissan made this technology realistic by adding an analog step to an otherwise digital production process. Each face paint was meticulously hand painted on human models by a world champion face painter, and then digitally re-mastered to produce the most realistic look possible.
“The DieHard Fan mobile app delivers on Nissan’s brand promise of innovation and excitement for everyone,” said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing Communications & Media at Nissan North America. “This is just one way for sports fans to unleash their colors anywhere, anytime, and engage with Nissan and our College 100 Sponsorship of men’s and women’s college sports programs throughout the U.S.”
“DieHard Fan” is available for free today from the App Store and Google Play.
