LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sisvel UK announced today that Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and KPN have joined Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Licensing Program which aggregates Wi-Fi patents from different patent holders. The licensing program will assure the growth and interoperability of Wi-Fi technology by providing fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory access to worldwide patent rights that are essential to the IEEE’s 802.11 Wi-Fi standard and related Wi-Fi Alliance specifications.
“We are very pleased that Fraunhofer IIS and KPN have decided to enter Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Licensing Program," said Nicholas Webb, Managing Director of Sisvel UK. “We have made substantial progress with our participating patent owners, and the joint licensing program we are putting together will promote broad-based adoption of the Wi-Fi standard”.
The addition of Fraunhofer IIS and KPN to the previous licensors further strengthens this patent pool, differentiating its offering from other licensing programs where few patents owners are represented, and makes it the most relevant “one shop stop” for licensees seeking to acquire the necessary rights to commercialize Wi-Fi enabled products.

Sisvel 802.11 Wi-Fi Joint Licensing Program
IEEE 802.11 is a
family of specifications for wireless local area network (WLAN)
communications in the bands from 2.4, up to 5 GHz that has continued to
evolve since the official publication of the first wireless LAN standard
in IEEE Std. 802.11-1997 and many subsequent enhancements. The IEEE
802.11n specification added multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and
several other enhancements, and was formally adopted as IEEE Std.
802.11n-2009. More recently, the IEEE has further enhanced WLAN
throughput in the 802.11ac specification.
