FAIRFAX, Va.--()--The leading-edge practitioners of the newly established National Scoliosis Center are pleased to announce that they are now treating patients in a new, one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art treatment facility in Fairfax, VA. The Center is an unprecedented one-stop practice, where patients receive various components of scoliosis treatment without traveling to numerous facilities. In addition to hand-crafting Rigo-Chêneau braces and providing Schroth physical therapy on site, the Center offers the only Nobel Prize-winning, ultra-low-dose radiation EOS® imaging technology in the U.S. outside of a hospital setting. By housing multiple elements of the most advanced non-surgical scoliosis treatment under one roof, the Center truly focuses on “everything scoliosis.”

The National Scoliosis Center is the manifested vision of its president, Luke Stikeleather, CO, and is the culmination of 25 years of focused scoliosis treatment. As a result of his training and collaboration with Dr. Manuel Rigo, MD, from Barcelona, Spain, Mr. Stikeleather has created an integrated facility that focuses on the non-operative care of scoliosis patients by working hand in hand with some of the top orthopedic surgeons around the world. In so doing, the Center offers a holistic approach to scoliosis care, using state-of-the-art equipment and innovative treatment methods, with an infrastructure capable of treating both local and out-of-town patients, and a prevailing emphasis on compassion and patient empathy. Partnering with Mr. Stikeleather in providing unsurpassed scoliosis treatment to each patient, Downey Hinrichs, MSPT, CLCP, is a Certified Schroth Therapist with over 20 years of physical therapy experience. Ms. Hinrichs has had advanced training in Schroth therapy, and studied with Dr. Manuel Rigo at the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School. Ms. Hinrichs specializes in “boutique therapy,” which focuses on the specific needs of each patient. She wore a brace herself as an adolescent and her daughter currently wears a Rigo-Chêneau brace, so Ms. Hinrichs has an invaluable understanding of the treatment process. She understands that scoliosis is not a disease, but rather a condition that requires lifelong management. In addition, she believes that committing to appointments, exercises, and wearing a brace can impact the whole family—not just the individual with scoliosis. Having first-hand experience as an adolescent scoliosis patient, professional therapist, mother of a scoliosis patient, and an individual aging with scoliosis, Ms. Hinrichs understands the benefits of Schroth therapy and the importance of appropriate intervention.

At the National Scoliosis Center, sensitivity to the patient’s needs and well-being drive the practitioners’ commitment to providing consistently superior treatment. The patient population of individuals requiring treatment for scoliosis consists primarily of pre-teen and teenage girls. However, since the cause of scoliosis is largely unknown, all children should be checked periodically. Early detection significantly increases the likelihood of successful non-operative treatment. As a former scoliosis patient, Mylinda Green wore a Milwaukee brace as a teenager and underwent two spinal fusion surgeries. Her son, Sean, has been one of Mr. Stikeleather’s patients for five years and wears a Rigo-Chêneau brace. Mylinda accompanied Sean to a recent follow-up appointment with Luke, and was impressed by the new location, stating, “The new facility is modern and welcoming, with bright, cheery colors and spacious exam rooms. We were also impressed by the state-of-the-art technology that’s been incorporated into the new location, primarily the EOS® imaging technology.”
