State of New Mexico, Technology Ventures to Sponsor DisrupTech

LOS ALAMOS, N.M.--()--In a show of support for New Mexico’s growing innovation economy, the State of New Mexico Economic Development Department and Technology Ventures Corporation have signed on as major sponsors of DisrupTech, a showcase of disruptive technology developed by Los Alamos National Laboratory scientists.

Set for Thursday, July 16, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Los Alamos Golf Course Event Center, DisrupTech features eight entrepreneurial-minded scientists presenting technologies in the areas of sustainable fracking, solar cell materials, biofuels, tamper forensics, neutralization of toxic chemicals, biotechnology, water treatment, and industrial process improvement.

DisrupTech is hosted by the Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation at Los Alamos and the New Mexico Angels, the state’s leading angel investing group. The purpose of DisrupTech is to expose entrepreneurs, investors, business people, and other leaders to potentially world changing, early-stage technologies developed by Los Alamos scientists and promote the innovation culture at the Laboratory.

As DisrupTech’s title sponsor, the State of New Mexico’s Economic Development Department has signaled its support for technology innovations that spark investment, launch start-up companies and create jobs in the Land of Enchantment. Said New Mexico Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Jon Barela, “Governor Susannah Martinez re-activated the Technology Research Collaborative (TRC), an effective tool to grow and keep new technologies in New Mexico and recently signed the Angel Investment Tax Credit and the Small Business R&D Credit expansion into law, following a strong show of leadership from the Legislature. Our sponsorship of DisrupTech is just one way the TRC will continue to strengthen and diversify our economy.”

Technology Ventures Corporation (TVC) is DisrupTech’s silver sponsor. TVC President and CEO John Freisinger said, "DisrupTech allows for a critical exchange between New Mexico’s brightest researchers and our most active entrepreneurs. The more these two groups of people meet, the more innovative companies will be created, and the more jobs and opportunities will be created in our State."

Other DisrupTech sponsors include Los Alamos County, City of Santa Fe Economic Development, Regional Development Corporation, and New Mexico Technology Council. Purchase tickets to DisrupTech at www.LANLDisrupTech.com.
