TOKYO--()--Keio Plaza Hotel (KPH) will jointly host a complimentary exhibition of Arita porcelain art with Saga Prefectural Government to celebrate the 400th year since its birth. This year’s exhibition is based upon the theme of “Japan-ism Boom Sparked by Meiji Era (1868-1912) Arita Art Exhibit at the World Exhibition” and will display Meiji Era porcelain art similar to those displayed at the World Exhibition held in Europe.

The “Arita Porcelain” displayed at the World Exhibitions held in Europe from the end of the Edo Period (1683-1868) to the start of the Meiji Period were admired for their sophisticated and beautiful designs and made an extremely strong impact upon visitors who saw the Arita porcelain at the World Exhibition. At the time, Arita porcelain sparked a keen interest in cultural items made in Japan, which is also known as “Japan-ism” and established the highly prized “Japan brand” in Europe. Arita porcelain art items representative of the Meiji Era and some of the items displayed at the World Exhibition, including a 2 meter tall “flower vase decorated with birds and flowers in multiple colors” and other highly decorated vases belonging to the Saga Prefectural Government Treasury and the Kyushu Ceramic Museums will be on display. The highly decorated exhibition booth displaying these porcelain is very large, measuring 8.5 meters wide, 3 meters tall, and 2.7 meters deep, and will be located in our hotel lobby for guests to enjoy.

In addition, other beautifully decorated “Meiji Era Arita” reproduction porcelain that fused Japanese and Western artistic styles, and artwork of other potters will also be on display on a complimentary basis, and guests can also enjoy shopping them as well as experiencing the special cuisine served in Arita tableware at our restaurants.
