PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Theranos, Inc., the ground-breaking consumer health care technology company, announced today that Heather King has been hired as General Counsel. King has been a partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner in their Washington, D.C. office and has worked closely with their client, Theranos.
“Our mission at Theranos is to fundamentally change the health care system and Heather has been an important part of our efforts to do that,” said Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes. “As we work to make actionable health information available to individuals so that they change outcomes and live healthier lives, Heather’s insights and leadership will be invaluable. I am extremely pleased to have her with us.”
King, who will be moving to Palo Alto, said she was excited to be joining Theranos.
“It is an honor and a privilege to become a part of Theranos’ team,” said King. “I knew the first time that I met with Elizabeth and her staff that this is a forward thinking, innovative, and one-of-a-kind company. People are gaining the health information that they need and their lives are better because of what Theranos does every day.”
At Boies, Schiller & Flexner, King worked on a variety of litigation and public policy matters including corporate defense work and federal government response. She helped lead the successful litigation and public policy strategy and execution for The Bank of New York Mellon in its defense of a $22.5 billion claim filed by the Russian government in Russian court. She also assisted and advised clients including DuPont, Pioneer, the New York Yankees, CBS, C.V. Starr & Co., Goldman Sachs, Northwest Airlines, and Detroit International Bridge Company about issues related to litigation, the legislative process, federal government agencies and Congress, international treaties and antitrust.
David Boies, the Chairman of Boies, Schiller & Flexner, praised King and applauded her move.
“Heather King is an outstanding lawyer with impressive experience in government service, litigation and corporate counseling,” Boies said. “For the past eight years, she has contributed to the development of our Washington office through her intelligence, creativity, and commitment to client service. We will miss her. However, our loss is Theranos’s gain – she is a great match for a cutting edge company with an important mission.”
Before joining Boies, Schiller & Flexner, King served as Special Assistant and Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and helped lead Senator Clinton’s campaigns. She helped run the Senator’s Washington office, foreign relations work, and women’s public health issues, and was liaison with other government bodies and a large team of legislative and strategic advisors.
King holds a J.D from Georgetown University Law Center, and a B.S. from the University of Evansville.
