Empowers Africa is hosting its 2015 Annual Event at The Explorers Club in New York City. Event Chairs and Vice Chairs include Beth Rudin DeWoody, Nina Griscom, Frances Schultz, Donna Corbat, Flo Fulton, Laura Nicklas, Krista Krieger and more. The organization is honoring Global Witness and its co-founding Directors Patrick Alley, Charmian Gooch & Simon Taylor - winners of the 2014 Ted Prize and the 2014 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship. Global Witness has been working for more than 20 years investigating and campaigning to end corruption, conflict, environmental destruction and the abuse of human rights linked to the exploitation of natural resources in Africa and around the world. Their work includes investigating and documenting environmental crimes depicted in the 2015 Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Feature Virunga. 100% of the proceeds from the event will be granted to wildlife protection and human empowerment projects in Africa. |
The auction will feature safaris from top operators in Africa, including, Singita, Wilderness Safaris, The Cape Grace Hotel & Spa, The Victoria Falls Hotel and Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge and more. Also included in the auction is work from Firooz Zahedi, one of the most established photographers in Hollywood. Mr. Zahedi has been involved in award winning advertising and publicity campaigns for major films and television shows, photographed album covers for stars such as Barbara Striesand and been a contributing photographer for many magazines including Vanity Fair, Town & Country and Time. The auction includes prints from Andy Biggs, globally acclaimed wildlife photographer who was the winner of BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the 'Wild Places' category in 2008.
