SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Bitcoin Community brings you Bitcoin Giving Tuesday. The BitGive Foundation, Bitcoin Foundation, BitPay, Bitcoin Black Friday, Circle, and ChangeTip are working together to raise awareness and provide a way for people to give 100%, no matter how small the amount, to the causes they care most about.
To participate in this year’s #GivingTuesday event in Bitcoin style, visit www.bitcoingivingtuesday.org on December 2, 2014 for a listing of all charities participating. ChangeTip is also aligning their #TippingTuesday campaign on social media outlets with #BitcoinGivingTuesday.
Well-known nonprofits recently started accepting Bitcoin and are participating in Bitcoin Giving Tuesday, including Save the Children, American Red Cross, Greenpeace, The Water Project, United Way, and more!
The BitGive Foundation helped raise funds in Bitcoin last year for Save the Children, and they are now accepting Bitcoin directly with BitPay for their #StopEbola campaign. “Accepting bitcoin donations seemed like a natural next step for us,” said Ettore Rossetti, Director of Digital Marketing & Social Media at Save the Children. “We have already seen the generosity of the bitcoin community, and working with BitPay allows us to keep 100% of the donations, helping us serve even more children.”
BitGive’s most recent campaign was launched to welcome Medic Mobile to Bitcoin, a nonprofit organization partnering on the ground in 21 countries using technology to support over 7,800 health workers and save lives in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Josh Nesbit, CEO of Medic Mobile, shares “We are excited to partner with the BitGive Foundation and offer a way for Bitcoin's passionate community to support our mission. Every donation helps support community health workers in the hardest-to-reach places.”
With Bitcoin, on #GivingTuesday, the global day of giving, people are now empowered to give as little as $0.01 and see 100% go toward their cause. Many donors don’t know that charities are charged a transaction cost for each deposit into their bank account. If a transaction fee is $0.25, then a $1 donation will equate to a 25% loss. Such inefficiencies in banking systems - particularly when remitting funds internationally - could be overcome by giving in Bitcoin.
